The Sunshine Kings are a jazz band led by Graham Hughes on the trombone. With a classic six-piece line-up of trumpet, trombone, clarinet, piano, sousaphone and drums the band is inspired by New Orleans jazz and it’s various revivals over the last 100 years.

The band was formed for an appearance at a jazz club in North London in 2009. Word spread from this and they soon appeared at other jazz clubs, and many other events, and at festivals from Cornwall to Cumbria. In 2011 they recorded their first album.

The Sunshine Kings’ repertoire is drawn largely from the small group jazz of the 20’s and 30’s with a few other interesting numbers from other eras thrown in to spice things up, all played with energy and life. All the musicians in the band have diverse musical backgrounds outside traditional jazz which gives the band a distinctive sound and performance style. The programme will be announced at the concert by Graham Hughes.
