| Description: | Shostakovitch's 'Festive Overture' opens this concert tonight, with all its humour, speed and virtuosity, it is a splendid and hugely enjoyable overture. Our principal oboe, Chris Braime will perform the Richard Strauss Oboe Concerto. enormously florrid and romantic, a smaller orchestra accompanies this staple of the oboe repertoire. The Karelia Suite by Sibelius follows, this is one of those works again, seldom heard in concert these days, which is surprising as it is immensely popular. Stravinsky srote several versions of his 'Firebird Suite', tonight, we play the 1919, possibly the most exciting and well known. Join us then for an evening of hugely entertaining and fulfilling music. |
