Description: | Phoenix Orchestra opens the evening with Haydn's Symphony No. 40 in F Major, then joins with the choir, moving into the Romantic period to perform two lyrical pieces: Brahms "Nanie" words by Schiller (lamenting the death of a friend) then following the interval Dvorak "Mass in D" - a powerful work full of contrasts, highlighting in turn each section of the choir. John Langridge conducts. |
