| Description: | Billingshurst Choral Society performs the St. John Passion. It is the first of Bach's two Passion settings that have survived and are known today, however it tends to be eclipsed by his second, the St. Matthew Passion. The St. John Passion, based on the Gospel of St John, is concise, very dramatic, [one could say like an Opera!?] and it has its own special character. Bach’s clever interweaving of arias, recitatives, choruses and chorales to tell the story is the foundation of the expressive power of the Passion. |
