Description: | One of Lancing’s recent and popular traditions is the open-air service of the blessing of local fishing and pleasure boats. Music will be provided by the Sir Robert Woodard Academy Junior Band who will also give a concert after the service. Cream Teas will be served in St Michael’s Church Hall from 3 pm. The Blessing of Boats traces its origin back to Biblical days when the followers of Jesus were fishermen. During the service prayers are said for the crew of each boat and Holy Water is sprinkled on it. The service also includes hymns and is led by Fr Barry Carter, Vicar of St Michael and All Angels, Lancing. |
