Description: | On Saturday 2nd April the Weald Choir of Crawley will present a concert of 20th Century French choral music under the direction of their conductor Michael Emery. The main work to be performed is Duruflé’s atmospheric Requiem, which is one of the most sensitively-wrought and much-loved works in the sacred repertoire. Woven together from the timeless themes of Gregorian chant, like Fauré’s Requiem it creates a mood of gentle reflection and calm through music of heart-stopping beauty. The concert also includes Panis Angelicus by Cesar Franck, Fauré’s popular Cantique de Jean Racine and an exquisite short piece by Pierre Villette, Hymne a la Vierge. Local soloists Ann Phillipson, soprano and ‘cellist Gina Eason will feature, as will organist Stephen Disley from Southwark Cathedral.Free parking is available in the school playground opposite the venue. |
