Description: | Eco-Oratorio, Cry of the Earth, composed by Tony Biggin, with libretto by Alec Davison, is a family friendly concert which should appeal to a wide audience - from dedicated Fringe enthusiasts and classical music fans - to all those with an interest in ecology and the environment. Written specifically for a large choir, this exciting and unusual work is performed by the East Sussex Community Choir, together with students from the East Sussex Academy of Music Choir and also 60 children from three East Sussex primary schools. The orchestra of 30 players is made up of instrumental students from the East Sussex Academy of Music, together with members of the South Downs Youth Orchestra alongside professional players. The professional vocalists are Lesley-Jane Rogers (Soprano), Marcia Bellamy (Mezzo-Soprano), Andrew Mckenzie-Wicks (Tenor) and John Hancorn (Baritone); with actor/narrators, Roger Alborough and the ever-popular, Baroness Floella Benjamin. Performance director, Nicholas Houghton, conductor of the East Sussex Community Choir, says “Cry of the Earth sees the coming together of all age groups to perform a work of great exuberance which speaks directly to our times. Addressing the beauty of creation as well as its destruction by mankind, this uplifting oratorio is both a call to action and a cry of hope; it promises to be an unforgettable experience for performers and audience alike.” |
