| Description: | St Leonard’s Mayfield School Music Department offers pupils practical experience of performing, composing and listening, provides them with an historical perspective of the discipline and encourages participation in the School’s many ensembles. Music as an academic discipline is offered up to A-Level, and girls sit the Associated Board, Trinity Guildhall, London College of Music Musical Theatre and Rock School examinations at all grades, including diploma level. The School is particularly noted for its choir, Schola Cantorum, which is devoted to the practice and performance of a broad repertoire from sixteenth century polyphony to West Side Story. In existence for forty years, Schola has performed in many high profile venues across Europe, including a Papal Audience at the Vatican, St Peter’s Basilica in Rome, St Mark’s Basilica in Venice, St Paul’s Cathedral in London and York Minster. In today’s programme, you will hear both our instrumental performers and our choir. All of us, teachers, performers and audiences at this Festival are, by definition, music lovers.
