| Description: | A celebration of the music of Cole Porter, George Gershwin, Rogers and Hammerstein and Lerner and Loewe. Conductor and arranger John Wilson formed the John Wilson Orchestra in 1994. The orchestra has an international reputation as a unique hand-picked ensemble of some of the world’s finest musicians. The orchestra specialises in recording contemporary film soundtracks and authentic concert performances of classic film musical scores. In August 2009 the John Wilson Orchestra made its debut at the BBC Proms at the Royal Albert Hall in a concert celebrating the 75th anniversary of the MGM film musicals. The concert was broadcast live on British television. In August 2010 the orchestra returned to the BBC Proms in a celebration of Rodgers & Hammerstein film musicals. In the autumn of 2010 the John Wilson Orchestra performed its first national tour of the United Kingdom. The John Wilson Orchestra performed a Christmas special Swingin’ Christmas for BBC Television which was broadcast on Christmas night 2010 and in 2011 the orchestra returned to the BBC Proms with a sell out concert ‘Hooray for Hollywood’.
