Title: | Dido and Aeneas |
Performed by: | Kantanti Ensemble |
Time: | Sunday, 16 June 2013, at 3:00pm |
Place: | St John sub Castro, Lewes |
Description: | Join the Kantanti Ensemble this June to experience the timeless story of love, sorcery and heartbreak in Henry Purcell's masterpiece Dido and Aeneas, and one of Vivaldi’s finest works, his Stabat Mater for countertenor (Robert Cross) and orchestra. Purcell's brilliant musical drama will be brought vividly to life in this semi-staged performance, featuring the young professional musicians of the Ensemble, together with a cast of talented young soloists and our first ever chorus drawn from the best community singers across the southeast. There's also a short pre-concert recital focussing on Benjamin Britten - in this, his centenary year, the Kantanti Soloists celebrate Britten's love of early English music with performances of his take on some Purcell songs, and the haunting Lachrymae, based on a song by Renaissance composer John Dowland. |
