Description: | The Fretful Federation Mandolin Orchestra is holding a concert in Worthing on Tuesday 22nd October at the Emmanuel URC Church. The concert starts at 7.30pm and tickets are £10/£8 concessions. They are available through the VisitWorthing Information Centre at the Dome, telephone 01903 239868, www.visitworthing.co.uk/what's-on. The Fretful Federation Mandolin Orchestra is a Sussex-based award-winning mandolin orchestra founded in 1995 by Ian Harris, the original leader and musical director. His aim was to revive the once hugely popular tradition of amateur mandolin orchestras. In April 2012 Ian passed the baton to American-born Lindsay Stoner and the orchestra continues to flourish and grow. Originally playing standards of the Mandolin Orchestra repertoire the orchestra now has a national reputation for playing contemporary as well as traditional tunes and actively seeks to collaborate with other groups of singers and players. Last year the Orchestra competed in the British Banjo, Mandolin and Guitar (BMG) Federation Rally and came away with several awards including the much prized Federation cup for Musicianship. (photo available) This is only our third visit to Worthing and we are looking forward to building on the warm reception we received last year. The programme will feature our usual eclectic mix of styles and include works by Marcello, Ravel and Ennio Morricone as well as traditional and contemporary works written for Mandolin Orchestra. This concert will also feature guest soloist, German born, Eva Ries playing the Marcello oboe concerto in D minor. Eva had her first oboe lessons with Angela Domansky-Butz in Ahrensburg and further studied with Johannes Brüggemann, solo oboe with the Lübeck Philharmonic, and Irene Göser-Streicher in Tubingen. After school she took an apprenticeship with Ingolf Mattern, Hamburg, to become an oboe maker. She later worked in Tübingen and the oboe repair workshop of Jörg Huttenbocher . Whilst there she passed her Meisterprüfung with distinction. In 2005 she moved to England to work for Oboe Makers Howarth of London. Howarth of London’s workshops are located in Worthing. She will be playing on an oboe she made herself. |
