Description: | Stratus Flutes are a young and dynamic flute ensemble based in London. All members hold qualifications from London's most respected establishments including the Guildhall School of Music and Drama and Trinity College of Music. Stratus Flutes play a wide range of repertoire, including classical, contemporary, folk-influenced and new works for Flute Trio. Lucy Driver studied at the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama with Richard Blake where she was awarded BMus(hons). Lucy then won a place to study at the prestigious Guildhall School of Music and Drama in London on the Guilhdall Artists Masters Course, from which she graduated with distinction. Whilst at GSMD Lucy took part in collaborations with the BBC Symphony Orchestra, London Symphony Orchestra and the Philharmonia. Highlights of these programmes include performing in the Barbican Centre's 'Total Immersion' Series alonside BBC Symphony Orchestra, and recording new works for ensemble at BBC Maida Vale Studios for broadcast on BBC Radio. Lucy has performed in many venues of note including the Barbican Concert Hall, the Wigmore Hall, Cadogan Hall, LSO St Luke's, and St John's Smith Square amongst others. Lucy was a selected artist for 'Musica als Parcs 2013' concert series in Barcelona with her flute and guitar duo with Maria Camahort, and the Duo also recently won the 'Pro Musicis International Award' at the Paris Conservatoire and will feature in concert halls around France during the next few seasons. Sameeta Gahir began learning the flute at the age of eight. In 2007 she went to Durham University as a Sir Thomas Beecham scholar where she studied with Juliette Bausor. She recently graduated with distinction from the Guildhall School of Music and Drama studying with Ian Clarke, Sarah Newbold and Philippa Davies. She also studied piccolo with Sharon Williams and alto flute with Rowland Sutherland. Sameeta is fortunate to have received an award from the RPS Sir John Barbirolli Memorial Foundation which facilitated the purchase of a J.R.Lafin headjoint. She was also assisted by the Leverhulme Trade Charities Trust during her time at Guildhall. Sameeta has played in many ensembles on flute, piccolo and alto flute, including Young Musicians Symphony Orchestra, London Schools Symphony Orchestra, Docklands Sinfonia and all the Guildhall ensembles. Sameeta also participated in a project with London Symphony Orchestra conducted by Gergiev in Trafalgar Square. She has performed on recordings for BBC Radio 3 and 'Dear Brutus' (performed in Guildhall's Silk Street Theatre). She is also interested in projects that combine music with other arts and performed as an on stage musician in 'Blood Wedding', a collaborative project with theatre. Kim Reilly graduated from Trinity College of Music in 2009 studying with Lynda Coffin, Anna Noakes and Alan Baker. Kim enjoyed many performance opportunities during her time at Trinity including performances in St. John's Smith Sqaure, Kings Place, Worth Abbey and Greenwich Theatre. Kim was also awarded first place in the Harold Clarke Woodwind Competition in her first year. Kim was a junior exhibitioner at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama from the age of 13 and at the age of 16 was awarded a scholarship to attend the Purcell School studying with Clare Southworth and Anna Pope. Kim is also a keen piccolo player and was a prize winner in the British Flute Society's Needham Piccolo competition in 2008. Kim holds the position of principal flautist in the Docklands Sinfonia and has played with them since their formation in 2009. Recent engagements include a recording at Angels Studios for Katie Melua's album 'Ketevan', performances with the illustrator James Mayhew and collaborations at the Royal Albert Hall with Imogen Heap. |
