Description: | MEMBERS OF THE HAMMIG STRING QUARTET DAVID BURTON VIOLIN JANE TYLER VIOLA SEAN TURPIN CELLO CAROLINE MARWOOD, COR ANGLAIS The Hammig String Quartet were formed in 1989, taking their name from the violin maker Wilhelm Hammig (1838-1925). Over the years the quartet has given many recitals across England and Wales and has made several visits to Leichlingen, Germany. They have been frequent performers at St George’s, Beckenham in both the Friday lunchtime and Saturday morning Coffee Concert series, and for other special events and services. Caroline studied at the Royal Academy of Music with Janet Craxton and Michael Dobson. She worked as a freelance oboist for many years, performing with English National Opera, the English Chamber Orchestra and the London Concert Orchestra, and was involved in many productions with the Royal Shakespeare Company including the first London run of Les Miserables. An Open University degree in Natural Sciences eventually led to a significant career change, and Caroline is now Head of Science at St Olave’s Grammar School. Music is however still an important part of her life; she performs regularly with several chamber music groups and plays principle oboe in the Bromley Symphony Orchestra.
