Place: | St Michael & All Angels Church, Lancing |
Description: | The Boundstone Chorus will combine a firm favourite of the choral repertoire with a piece composed with Lancing at its heart in their forthcoming concert. Mozart’s "Requiem" conveys the meaning of the text with power and drama whilst Musical Director Aedan Kerney’s piece "Song of the Seasons" finds its inspiration in the communities of Lancing and Sompting between the two world wars, but with a universality in its appeal with its focus on the importance of a sense of place and the significance of the passing seasons. Setting of words by Cardinal Newman, John Clare and Gerard Manley Hopkins are included. Mozart composed his Requiem in response to a commission in 1791 but only started composing in earnest in the autumn of that year. By 20th November he had fallen ill and he failed to complete the piece before he died on 5th December. His father had passed away a few years before and perhaps this and the closeness of his own death explains his vivid portrayal of the Mass for the dead. Joining the Chorus for their concert will be soloists Susan Gilmour Bailey (Soprano), Alexandra Gibson (Mezzo Soprano), David Brown (Tenor) and Ed Hawkins (Bass) together with a guest orchestra which has been supported by a grant from Lancing Parish Council. |
