| Description: | Shepherds Arise! is a collection of carols, country dance tunes, readings and Mummers play, all from Sussex sources. Some of the carols are from the 'West Gallery' tradition, when the Psalms and Anthems were accompanied by whatever instruments were available, sung and played from a gallery found in most country churches at one time. Other carols are those collected from country singers in the early 20th century. The dance tunes can be found in some of the surviving 19th century manuscripts. Last year's performance was a great hit, with standing room only, so be there in good time. Great entertainment, suitable for the whole family. |
