Description: | Well-known and lesser-known pieces by composers Bach, Handel and Haydn will be performed by The Boundstone Chorus in their forthcoming concert. Included are Handel’s coronation anthem ‘Zadok the Priest’, written for the coronation of George II in 1727 and since performed at every British coronation, alongside his Chandos anthem ‘O Praise the Lord’ written early in his career for his patron the Duke of Chandos. Bach’s greatest choral music was written in Leipzig where he often composed pieces based on a single hymn tune and we’ve included two of these - his oratorio ‘Sleepers Wake’ and his popular ‘Jesu, joy of man’s desiring’. Completing our progamme will be ‘The heavens are telling’ from Haydn’s popular oratorio ‘The Creation’ and his ‘Insanae et vanae curae'.There will also be some solos performed by members of the Chorus and excerpts from Handel’s ‘Music for the Royal Fireworks’ performed on the organ. |
