Title: | Jazz and Swing Concert: All about… Jazz |
Performed by: | Fernhurst Choral Society |
Time: | Saturday, 18 November 2017, at 7:30pm |
Place: | St Mary’s Church, Petworth |
Description: | Fernhurst Choral Society will break new ground in November when it performs a concert of jazz and swing, accompanied by the Matt Robinson Jazz Trio. The principal piece is “A Little Jazz Mass”, by contemporary choral composer and former King’s Singer Bob Chilcott. The five short movements are a jazz interpretation of the Latin Mass, which has been described as “gorgeous, soulful music in an utterly original setting” by Oxford University Press. The concert will continue with classic American songs from the first half of the 20th century. These include Cole Porter’s “Every time we say goodbye” and “Let’s Do It”; George and Ira Gershwin’s “I got rhythm” and “A foggy day in London town”; Jerome Kern and Dorothy Fields’ “The way you look tonight”; Jerome Kern and Oscar Hammerstein’s “All the things you are”; and Harold Arden and Yip Harburg’s “Over the rainbow” from The Wizard of Oz. The concert is at 7.30pm Saturday 18th November 2017 at St Mary’s Church, Petworth. The concert is in aid of The Hunter Centre, supporting those living with dementia. FCS warmly welcomes new members at any time of the year, so come along to one of our rehearsals on a Monday evening, its great fun; details are on the website. |
