Time: | Saturday, 24 June 2023, at 7:30pm |
Place: | St Dunstan’s Church, Mayfield |
Description: | Joseph Havlat likes ferns. He is also an astonishing pianist. As a teenager, he travelled from Australia to London in order to study with Joanna McGregor; now approaching 30, he has lived and worked in England ever since, and now teaches at the Royal Academy of Music alongside his mentor. Havlat mesmerises audiences both with the familiar and the unfamiliar. He plays in the Wigmore Hall, King’s Place, St John’s Smith Square and the Concertgebouw Recital Hall in Amsterdam. His programme in Mayfield’s Solstice Festival is built around Haydn, Debussy, and Respighi, and also introduces the Romantic Hungarian soundworld of Dohnányi and the simplicity of Hans Abrahamsen’s Danish soundscape. ‘When Havlat plays, you listen’. |
