| Description: | There are Coronation threads aplenty in the first half of this regal choral celebration, which features works by Byrd, Parsons and Howells. But the second half heads in an entirely different direction. What links jazz and a choral setting of the Latin Mass? The answer is Will Todd’s Mass in Blue, this year celebrating its 20th anniversary – a showcase for jazz trio, choir, and vocal soloist. The Mass in Blue is a genuinely novel experience, but one that feels as natural as a fusion of Jazz FM and Classic FM: smooth and easy on the ear, but gloriously unpredictable too. The Mayfield Consort, Oxford Camerata, Olly Lallement’s Jazz Trio and Jack Gonzalez-Harding (Organ) are conducted by Andrew Benians in this performance of Will Todd’s Mass in Blue. |
