| Description: | The programme opens with Beethoven's Leonore Overture no.3, composed in 1805, followed by Carl Maria von Weber's Horn Concertino in E minor. This virtuosic piece was composed in 1806 for the Karlsruhe player Dautrevaux, and revised for the Munich virtuoso Rauch in 1815. The soloist is John Peskett. The final piece is Dorak's Symphony no.7 in D minor, a work commissioned by the London Philharmonic Society and completed in 1885, when it was performed for the first time at St.James's Hall in London. Highly regarded by critics and musicologists as one of the finest examples of the art form, it conveys Dvorak's personal struggle from doubt to resolution. |
